With the end of the New Year celebrations it is time for US tax filers to start thinking about the key upcoming filing deadlines.

The Federal Tax return filing deadline for taxpayers living within the US will be April 17 2018. The filing deadline for those living outside the US, due to an automatic 2 month extension, will be June 15th 2018. This is the same date by which those taxpayers living outside the US must file their extension applications, extending the filing deadline to October 15th 2018.

The deadline for the report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts (FBAR) is now aligned with the Federal Tax return, meaning that the filing deadline is April 17 2018, HOWEVER the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) will grant filers missing the April 17th deadline an automatic extension to October 15 2018. This extension does not need to be applied for.

Don’t forget that the filing deadlines for State Tax Returns are determined by the individual State, and may not coincide with the Federal Filing dates, so make sure to check.
